Challenge

The Brands We Travel With microsite tackled a key design challenge: crafting an engaging web experience that connected non-travel brands with travelers while elevating Tripadvisor’s functional platform into an inspiring digital space.

Non-travel brands often struggle to define their role in a traveler’s journey, making it hard to resonate with this audience. Meanwhile, Tripadvisor’s platform lacked the immersive qualities needed to excite and inspire partner brands. Our task was to create a dynamic, visually rich experience that told a compelling story of a traveler’s journey, showing how brands can seamlessly integrate into this narrative.

The goal was to inspire engagement, showcase opportunities, and position Tripadvisor as a leader in travel insights and experiential design.
Solution

Working closely with an external agency, we developed an immersive web experience featuring 3D scrolling and a sequential narrative that guided users through a traveler’s journey. This structure highlighted how non-travel brands can integrate seamlessly into the travel experience. By incorporating Tripadvisor’s visual identity alongside, human-centered imagery, we created a warm, engaging, modern web experience that resonated with business partners while showcasing the company as an industry thought leader.

Process and Approach

Through competitive research, the team identified trends in using interactive microsites for data-heavy reports and developed an innovative, scroll-focused structure. We segmented the travel journey into seven phases, aligning the narrative with travelers' real-world experiences. Each phase offered insights and detailed information tailored for users, making the content highly engaging and actionable.

Data Visualization and Emotional Connection

We addressed the lack of a consistent data visualization style following Tripadvisor’s 2020 rebrand by creating a bold, clean aesthetic. Using the company’s shape library, they ensured graphics were visually appealing and easy to interpret. We also emphasized emotional storytelling by showcasing authentic traveler imagery, that moved away from obvious stock library tropes, making the platform relatable for users..

Results and Impact

Our collaborative efforts resulted in an engaging digital experience delivered within tight timelines. The platform received strong early feedback and won two Drum Awards in 2024, positioning Tripadvisor as a leader in innovative travel and brand partnerships.
